In 1992, just after graduating from high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. Bossard got her start in the commercial seafood industry in the year 1999. In that year she worked on Murat Aritan's halibut 65 feet boat, which was later converted into a fish tender. Bossard has been engaged to Aritan, has joined their forces in order to claim their industries. They are both proponents of conserving renewable and sustainable marine resources. Otolith is a wholesale direct seafood retailer, was founded in the year 2007 by Bella Bossard (age three), Andre Bossard (1 year old) and the Bossard's mother. Bossard had returned to Philadelphia after the birth of her two children. Its name is a sweet recall of her extensive fish biology knowledge and her husband's extensive involvement to the industry of seafood, often keeping them from each other for 5 months or more at a time while they focus on financial and environmental goals which show their independence as well as determination to serve their communities wherever they reside. Bossard and her children Andre 10 and Isabella 12 each year return for a visit to Southeast Alaska as deckhands to harvest wild salmon during summer. After two months of fishing using hooks, lines and a 42-foot salmon troller they have joined Aritan and sold local processors of seafood.
